Windsor West MP warns of social media fraud

Windsor West MP Brian Masse has sent a notice to residents warning them of a social media scam.

Masse wrote that every year Canadians, “… fall victim to preventable fraud schemes, losing millions of dollars, and compromising their privacy and personal security.”

The MP warns of potential dangers associated with social media. He pointed out five particular social media scams, including:

  1. Hidden URL’s
  2. Phishing requests
  3. Hidden charges
  4. Cash grabs
  5. Chain letters

Those who fall victim to these scams are encouraged to contact the police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
