Speed notice scam races into Norfolk, Ont.

Norfolk, Ont. OPP is warning residents to beware of a speed notice scam, following a complaint from a county resident on Wednesday, June 28.

The resident received an email indicating they had been issued a “speed violation for exceeding the posted speed limit,” informing them they had a legal obligation to comply with the document request and declare who was operating the vehicle within 25 days. An attached photo purported to be from the Government of Canada strove to add authenticity to what police are identifying as a scam, pure, if not simple.

Norfolk OPP advises anyone receiving such an email to delete it immediately.
