RNC investigating jewellery fraud

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is investigating an alleged jewellery fraud after two stores in St. John’s, NL are out thousands of dollars after a man used a fake prepaid credit card to buy jewellery.

According to the news release, the RNC has had two fraud complaints since August 8. In both cases, the accused said he was from out of province and purchased items using a prepaid credit card.

The two stores were later notified that the transactions were fraudulent. In total, $20,000 worth of merchandise was taken. Police are warning store owners that the man may try the scheme again and to remain cautious.
