Halton, Ont. police are asking residents not to fall for a water and gas pipe inspection scam that appears to be making its rounds in Oakville.

Police said they have begun to receive calls from people who have been contacted by fraudsters claiming to be employees of the Town of Oakville.

Using that authority the individual attempts to set up an appointment to visit the resident’s home so they can inspect their gas and water pipes.

The Town of Oakville says they are not behind these phone calls.

One resident said she was contacted by someone on Tuesday claiming to be with the town who said they would be coming on Thursday to examine her water and gas pipes. The woman told them not to come and contacted the town and the police.
