Ottawa police issue warning about paving scam

Ottawa police are warning residents against rushing into deals with paving contractors after receiving several complaints from people who “hired” contractors to do work but did not sign any paperwork.

When the work was completed, residents reported that the contractors pressured them to pay a higher rate.

The organized fraud unit of the police department says any contractor work should come with a hard-copy contract.

“Take the time to reflect on the deal before agreeing,” said Sgt. James Ritchie of the organized fraud unit.
