Ontario sees spike in cargo theft activity

Ontario is the second most common place in North America for cargo theft activity according to a recent analysis.

The report, completed by CargoNet, determined a year-by-year 262 per cent increase in Ontario cargo thefts in the first quarter of 2017. Many of the thefts were reported in the Greater Toronto Area, including 10 thefts reported in Brampton, five in Mississauga and five in Toronto.

A total of 358 incidents occurred across the United States and Canada, with seven per cent of them being classified as fraud, often identify theft or wire fraud.
