Lawyers arguing for the Ontario Securities Commission’s case against Home Capital Group Inc. pushed to expedite the proceedings at an opening hearing on Thursday.
However, legal counsel for Home Capital and some of its current and former executives accused of misleading disclosure say the sheer number of documents to be reviewed and the expected number of potential witnesses will not result in speedy proceedings.
The securities regulator has accused Home Capital of misleading shareholders and alleged they knew there was fraud in the company’s mortgage broker channel months before the problems were publicized in July 2015.
