Online rental scams persist in Atlantic Canada: Here’s how to protect yourself

March 29, 2021 – A series of rental scams in Atlantic Canada, which cost a Charlottetown woman $2,700 last month and a single mom from Auburn, N.S., $900 in November, continue to appear online.

The fraudsters are using real estate listings to get photos of homes to post as fake rental ads on sites like Kijiji.

The broad reaching nature of online scams like this one make reporting the most effective remedy, said Jeff Thomson, a senior RCMP intelligence analyst and manager of the Fraud Prevention and Intake Unit at the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre (CAFC). The Guardian reports. | READ MORE
