Niagara Falls woman defrauded by Facebook friend

A Niagara Falls, Ont. woman has been defrauded $4,000 by a Facebook friend after he offered to do a kitchen renovation but then failed to follow through.

Roberto Venditti pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of fraud under $5,000. Venditti contacted the victim via Facebook when she asked her friends on the social media site to recommend someone to renovate her kitchen.

Venditti took the woman to a cabinet shop in Niagara Falls where she selected her cabinets, hardware and countertops. She gave the contractor $4,000 as a down payment on the project.

The victim later checked with the cabinet store and was told no order had been placed on her behalf. When she demanded her money back, Venditti told her that her money was gone.
