Judge rejects defence request to halt Contrecoeur trial

A Quebec Superior Court judge rejected a motion to halt the Contrecoeur fraud trial on Wednesday.

Lawyers representing former Montreal city hall no.2 politician Frank Zampino requested the halt after arguing that the intercepted calls between lawyer and client violated Zampino’s constitutional rights.

Zampino was arrested in May 2012 on conspiracy and fraud charges relating to the sale of city-owned land at a fraction of its municipal assessment to build a residential development valued at $300 million.
