Karim Baratov, the Canadian charged in connection with a massive Russian hacking scheme, has been denied bail.

Prosecutors argued that Baratov, a 22-year-old Canadian citizen who was born in Kazakhstan, posed a flight risk. Heather Graham, an attorney representing the Department of Justice, argued that because of his large amount of funds available, his alleged ties to Russian officials, and the severe prison term he faces if convicted, Baratov should be kept in custody.

Baratov is facing charges of identity theft and conspiracy to commit computer fraud in connection with the theft of 500 million Yahoo user accounts in 2014.
