Former Mill Bay, B.C. resident Harold Backer is now living with his mother in Chemainus, a small community on Vancouver Island, after being released from custody in Victoria on Tuesday.
The former mutual funds salesman and Olympic rower was missing for nearly 18 months. Backer is now facing two counts of fraud over $5,000 after several of his former clients claimed he cost them millions of dollars they had investment with him.
The former Olympian’s bail conditions include surrendering all travel documents, and Backer living with his mother in Chemainus.
