The former Olympic rower and investment dealer who went missing for nearly a year and a half is scheduled to appear in a Victoria court today.

Harold Backer turned himself into police last week and is facing two counts of fraud over $5,000. The 52-year-old father disappeared in November 2015 after he told his family he was going for a bike ride and never returned home.

Financial crime investigators began investigating Backer after he sent his investors concerning letters about their investments. His licence was terminated after his disappearance stating failure to follow policies and procedures that required him to disclose all outside business activities.
