Grande Prairie RCMP are advising residents of an email scam demanding witnesses for a court case that doesn’t exist.

Police say the scam consists of an email being sent from the Department of Justice, claiming they are from their online Crown Prosecution Service. The e-mail indicates to the individual they have been summoned to court as a witness and invites them to click on a link to view the case details. Once the link is accessed a virus is installed onto the computer. This is a spam e-mail.

RCMP say if a resident is summoned to court, documentation will be served in person not via e-mail, text message or telephone.
