Police in Vanderhoof claim there have been increasing reports of scams in which victims are purchasing gift cards, crypto currency, bitcoin, and other electronic payment methods and sending them to unknown individuals.
The scammers are offering, “get rich quick scheme” which guarantees the victims that they will receive money and or other forms of compensation for sending them the requested payments.
RCMP warn citizens that scammers are becoming more sophisticated and will often request social insurance, drivers license numbers, personal photographs and recording statements requested by the scammers.
Residents that receive a call from an unknown individual and are asked for money or personal information should hang up and block the number.
All incidents can be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
