Ex-NFL player Darryl “Buster” Skrine arrested in Georgia amid dating fraud probe

Former NFL cornerback Darryl “Buster” Skrine has been arrested in Georgia on fraud charges linked to a romance scam. He remains wanted in Canada after breaching bail conditions in a separate bank fraud case.

Darryl “Buster” Skrine, a 36-year-old former NFL cornerback, has been arrested in Roswell, Georgia, on 18 charges tied to a romance fraud scheme. Authorities allege he used dating apps such as Hinge and Bumble to target women with false promises of repayment from his NFL earnings.

Victims reportedly lost hundreds of thousands of dollars after Skrine fabricated stories of financial hardship. Investigators say the funds were diverted to sustain a lavish lifestyle, including travel, short-term rentals, and luxury purchases.

The arrest comes as Skrine remains wanted by Canadian authorities. In 2023, Durham Regional Police alleged he defrauded a local bank of more than $100,000 using fraudulent checks. After being released on bail with GPS monitoring, he cut off his device in April 2024 and fled the country.

Canadian and U.S. authorities are now coordinating efforts to ensure Skrine faces prosecution in both jurisdictions. The case underscores the cross-border challenges of tracking and prosecuting financial fraud.
