May 19, 2021 – Two Toronto men face charges in connection with a mail theft and fraud investigation in Peel Region. But Peel Regional Police allege the two accused are members of a larger group of culprits who have been targeting Canada Post mailboxes and cashing stolen cheques.

“Beginning in January 2020, investigators were able to identify links to several damaged Canada Post mailboxes that had occurred within the Region of Peel,” police said in a statement Wednesday.

Investigators learned those allegedly involved were using “specific means to gain entry to exterior Canada Post mailboxes and would proceed to steal cheques from inside,” police said, adding the thieves would then allegedly “deposit the stolen cheques into various banks and conduct various transactions.” Toronto Sun reports. | READ MORE
