May 4, 2021 – The Central Alberta Victim and Witness Support Society (CAVWSS) has started a major fundraising initiative.
‘The Road Ahead Campaign’ aims to raise over $35,000 over the next year (with the possibility of extension) to secure funding for future operations as well as increasing community awareness about existing programs and services.
“Any one of us could become a victim or witness of crime and tragedy at any given time and be faced with an overwhelming, emotional and difficult road ahead,” Gloria Derksen, executive director, said in a press release this week.
CAVWSS relies heavily on funding and direct financial contributions from donors and sponsorships in order to provide services for cases such as fraud, homicide, family/domestic violence, sexual assault, physical assault, armed robbery, theft, break and enter, among others.
The organization is a non-profit registered charity that supports victims and witnesses of crime and tragedy and helps individuals and families bridge the gap from hurt to hope through professional and compassionate provision of direct support, information, referral and education. Trained staff and advocates are available 24/7, 365 days a year to ensure victims and witnesses do not have to face their journey alone.
“You can help make a difference. Whether you are in a position to make a financial donation, corporate sponsorship, a gift-in-kind, a gift card for food/clothing/travel etcetera, we invite you to take part in our campaign. Our team will work with you to determine a plan that fits you and/or your business or organization,” said Amber Casey, CAVWSS Fund Development Coordinator.
