Canada-wide warrant issued for Alberta man accused of $10M investor fraud

RCMP have issued a Canada-wide warrant for Alberta wealth manager Mark Douglas Alexander, who is accused of misappropriating more than $10 million from investors through his now-defunct company, CWS Capital. Authorities say a portion of the funds were funneled into cryptocurrency.

An Alberta man is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after investigators alleged he embezzled over $10 million from investors in his Edmonton-based wealth management company.

The RCMP’s federal policing integrated market enforcement team (IMET) in Calgary announced that Mark Douglas Alexander, 41, the founder and president of Canadian Wealth Strategies (CWS) Capital, is facing charges of fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and laundering proceeds of crime.

CWS Capital, which described itself as a foreign exchange trading business operating internationally, abruptly ceased operations in April 2023. The company posted a vague message on social media at the time, and Alexander reportedly became unreachable while living in the Dominican Republic.

Investigators allege Alexander diverted investor money from company accounts into other accounts under his control. A portion of the funds was allegedly transferred into cryptocurrency exchanges.

Alexander founded CWS Capital in 2013, promoting it as an alternative investment vehicle. Promotional materials described him as a banker-turned-entrepreneur who built the fund with backing from friends and family.

According to RCMP, Alexander has been charged as of September 9, 2025, and is now the subject of a Canada-wide warrant. Authorities worked with FINTRAC, the Canada Border Services Agency, and Passport Canada during the investigation.

The IMET unit — a specialized RCMP division that investigates market fraud in cooperation with securities regulators — said the case highlights its efforts to protect investors and strengthen confidence in Canadian capital markets.

Alexander’s current whereabouts remain unknown.
