Brockville, Ont. gas stations report fraud involving points app

Brockville, Ont. police are advising local retailers to use caution when accepting points or reward cards as payment for pre-paid or gift cards.

City police responded to a complaint from one of the Petro-Canada outlets on Stewart Boulevard on Tuesday morning. Three male suspects reportedly used a Petro Points app on their phone to purchase pre-paid VISA cards inside the store. Staff learned after the suspects had left that the numbers used in the phone app were either fraudulent or stolen, according to a police news release issued on Wednesday.
