New date assigned to Bernard McCarthy in Cape Breton fraud case

Bernard McCarthy, a Cape Breton man who failed to appear for his preliminary hearing on fraud charges has been released on conditions.

The 49-year-old man is charged with defrauding the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services of more than $15,000 between August 2007 and May 2015.

McCarthy’s preliminary hearing was adjourned in June after he failed to show. His new hearing is scheduled for July 19.
