Mississauga (July 22, 2019) – The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) have issued a press release warning the public about fraudulent calls which appear to be coming from their toll-free phone number 1-800-787-8529. The fraudsters are spoofing the SIU’s phone number to obtain personal information of their intended victims.
They mostly use the same pattern which simulates a problem with the victim’s Social Insurance Number. Moreover, the victims are told that if they don’t continue with the call by pressing ‘1‘ or ‘2‘, the person will be charged or jailed.
The SIU wishes to inform the public that they do not contact people by phone for this type of personal information, according to their press release.
