Barrie legal secretary responsible for $700K worth of fraud

A 67-year-old Barrie, Ont. legal secretary has been arrested following a six-month investigation resulting in $700,000 worth of fraud.

The woman had been employed as a legal secretary at a local law firm for over 40 years.

The victim contacted police after learning that several bills had not been paid. Police determined that the accused had been responsible for numerous forged cheques and fraudulent bank transactions estimated to total upwards of $700,000. The frauds dated back to 2010.

The accused has been charged with fraud and theft over $5,000, forgery and uttering forged documents.
