A 73-year-old B.C. man, previously involved in a $20 million Ponzi scheme in Florida during the 1990s—under an alias—now faces eight new fraud charges following an investigation by B.C. regulators.
A British Columbia man, now aged 73, has been hit with eight new fraud-related charges tied to a decades-old Ponzi scheme, according to the B.C. Securities Commission’s Criminal Investigations Branch. The accused, Frederick Johnathon Nielsen, was previously charged in 2023 for his role in orchestrating a $20 million scheme in Florida during the 1990s. He had changed his identity to avoid detection. Muck Rack
Nielsen’s original fraud occurred under an assumed name and involved misrepresenting purported investment opportunities to defraud individuals, in line with classic Ponzi scheme tactics. These new charges, brought forward by West Vancouver police, expand the scope of the legal action, although specifics of the alleged additional wrongdoing remain undisclosed. Muck Rack
At this stage, Nielsen is presumed innocent. Legal proceedings are expected to unfold in the coming months, including court appearances and possible requests for bail or pre-trial motions. CFN will provide updates as the case progresses.
