Alberta Health Services says it has received several reports of a new scam in which a man claiming to be from a medical imaging clinic has tried to get women to conduct a breast exam on themselves while on the phone with him.

At least eight women in the Edmonton, Barrhead and Athabasca, Alta. areas have recently received these phone calls, according to a Health Services news release.

“The caller relays breast screening exam followup information and advises an immediate breast self-exam must be conducted while on the phone,” the release said

Alberta Health Services say the calls appear to be random and there is no evidence to suggest that patient records have been violated.
